This 2024 Presidential Election Meet the Candidates & Electoral College Map Activity makes for a fun research activity into the Democratic and Republican candidates for the 2024 Presidential Election! Use it this November to prepare students for Election Night! In this 2024 Presidential Election activity, Students research the 2024 presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, including their achievements, campaign promises, and their party platforms for various political issues. After filling out and coloring in the two-sided research worksheet, they can complete an optional short essay response based on what they have learned.

An Electoral College Map is also provided for Election Night! Students can color in each state as the results come in and track who gets the most Electoral College votes. This resource is a perfect addition to any 2024 Election lesson, particularly suitable for middle school Civics, American Government, and American History students. 

This 2024 Presidential Election Meet the Candidates and Electoral College Map resource includes:

✯ 1-page 2024 Presidential Election: Meet the Candidates research worksheet. Students research Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, filling out biographical information, listing accomplishments, and identifying campaign promises.

  • Prompts include: Political Party, Date of Birth, Work Experience, Achievements, Campaign Promises, and a Famous Quote!
  • Both color and black & white versions are included! The black & white version allows students to color the candidates themselves. This could make for a fun bulletin board of student research!
  • To fill out the worksheet, I suggest giving students time for independent research, either on the Internet or with printed out news articles/candidate biographies. If using the black & white version of the worksheet, give students access to colored pencils, markers, or crayons so they can color their pages and make them stand out!

✯ 1-page 2024 Presidential Election: Party Platforms research worksheet. Suitable for older students, students research the candidates’ plans for various major political issues, writing a brief 1-2 sentence description of their overall values and views. 

  • The political issues include: the Economy, Education, the Environment, Immigration, Healthcare, Foreign Policy, Individual Rights.
  • Give students ample time for independent internet research to formulate their responses. Advise students to use reputable websites, such as the candidates’ own campaign pages, to verify and collect accurate information. This is a golden opportunity to use their Media Literacy skills!

✯ 1-page 2024 Presidential Election: Short Essay Response. In this optional culminating activity, students take what they have learned in their research and apply it to a short essay response comparing and contrasting the candidates. This writing prompt asks students to introduce the reader to the candidates and summarize the differences between their campaign promises/visions for America. This activity can make for an engaging experience researching, condensing knowledge, and comparing the presidential candidates!

✯ An optional 2024 Election Night Electoral College Map is also provided! Students color in the map with the Electoral College winners and identify how many Electoral College votes each candidate received. They also identify who won the Election and will become our next President! This map makes for a simple print-and-go homework assignment on Election Night.

✯ Black and White versions are available for all of the worksheets! The colored graphics pop, but the black & white versions allow students to color in the candidates themselves, making an engaging doodle notes-style research activity!
