In this U.S Presidents One-Pager, students create a Presidential Portrait Gallery based on their research into an American President of their choice. Students research a U.S. President, illustrate a portrait, and write a short biography. This creative activity is a fun way to get elementary or middle school Civics, American History, and American Government students engaged in researching a U.S. President! A fun one-pager for a unit on the Executive Branch!
In this activity, students create a creative one-pager on their chosen U.S. President for a “Presidential Portrait Gallery”. (I highly suggest you set up a wall or bulletin board in your room to display this gallery wall!) Students will research a U.S. President, create a creative portrait using either illustrations or images from the internet, and write a short biographical paragraph on their president. Students can decorate their portrait’s frame however they like, as well, making for a really fun display in your classroom!
In their U.S Presidents One-Pager, students will:
✯ Research their chosen U.S. President, focusing on achievements during office and their overall legacy.
✯ Create a creative portrait that portrays their president and at least two achievements/events that defined their life or presidency. They must also include a quote from their president.
✯ Write a biographical paragraph for the placard beneath their portrait, which includes information such as party, dates in office, an explanation of their creative choices in their portrait, and a comment on their president’s legacy.
This non-editable PDF includes:
✯ Instructions & Rubric that clearly lay out expectations and the points system for grading.
✯ A Sample Portrait of President William Howard Taft to help students visualize what is expected of their pictures.
✯ Two Blank Templates for their Portrait — one with a banner for their President’s name at the top (or a quote!) and another without the banner. Choose whichever one you prefer!
