In this American Revolution Review worksheet set, students track the main events of the Colonial Rebellion on a timeline, put themselves into the shoes of Colonists protesting the Stamp Act and fighting in the Revolutionary War, illustrate Thomas Paine’s pamphlet Common Sense, and reflect on what might have happened if the American colonies had never rebelled. Perfect for middle and high school American History, Civics, or American Government students!

This American Revolution Review packet provides middle school Civics and American History students with both comprehensive and creative practice for the key concepts of the Road to the American Revolution! Students track the main events of the Colonial Rebellion on a timeline, put themselves into the shoes of Colonists protesting the Stamp Act and fighting in the Revolutionary War, illustrate Thomas Paine’s pamphlet Common Sense, and reflect on what might have happened if the American colonies had never rebelled.

Aligned to Florida State Standard SS.7.CG.1.5, The Road to Revolution, this review packet can be used in Civics, Government, or American History classrooms. Kids love the activities – and I love what thoughtful and creative responses these questions draw out of them!

This Road to Revolution Review includes:

✯ A Colonial Rebellion Timeline worksheet, in which students track major events of the American Revolution, such as the Stamp Act, the Tea Act, and Battles of Lexington and Concord on a timeline. They describe each major event and detail the Colonists’ reaction at the time.

✯ The Imagine… worksheet puts students in the shoes of an American Colonist and gauges their comprehension of major events in the Rebellion. If they had to re-draw Paul Revere’s famous engraving of the Boston Massacre, what would they draw? What would they write in a postcard home from the front lines of the Battles of Lexington and Concord? Blending creativity and critical thinking, it makes for a great review.

✯ In the Draw It! worksheet, students are asked to create an illustration for Thomas Paine’s Common Sense encouraging the colonists to join the fight for independence. They choose one of three provided quotes from Common Sense to include in their illustration.

✯ Finally, the Reflection worksheet asks students to imagine a world in which the colonies never rebelled against the King. What would life look like today if America had never gained its independence?

This resource is presented as a non-editable, printable PDF. A digital version is also available through TPT Easel after you download. Easel digital activities can be assigned directly to your Google Classroom, or shared with students via an email link!

What other teachers are saying about this resource:

“Great acceleration activity”

Excellent way for kids to get a bit creative and have time to reflect while studying the revolution–great acceleration activity for some of my more advanced classes (but totally doable, I think for all levels.)
