This resource is suitable for middle school Civics, American History, or American Government students and is a great way to review material at the end of a unit or before the end of year exams. Students love doing the puzzles, and they get a good review of their Civics vocabulary while they’re at it!

This resource is aligned to the following Florida State Standards for Middle School Civics:

  • SS.7.CG.2.1 Define the term “citizen,” and explain the constitutional means of becoming a U.S. citizen.
  • SS.7.CG.2.2 Differentiate between obligations and responsibilities of United States citizenship, and evaluate their impact on society. 

This resource includes:

✯ A Maze Escape. Students navigate the maze of review questions by drawing a straight line through each correct answer. By the time they reach the finish, their line should pass through every box! Questions include vocabulary definitions related to citizenship, civic duties and civic responsibility.

Sample questions in the Maze Escape:

  • How many years must a person have lived in the United States before they can apply for citizenship? (Answer: 18, SS.7.CL.2.1 Citizenship)
  • Is watching the news to become an informed citizen a Civic Duty or Responsibility? (Answer: Civic Responsibility, SS.7.CL.2.2 Obligations of Citizenship)
  • If you were born on U.S. soil, in a U.S. territory, or on a U.S. naval base, you have American Citizenship due to… (Answer: Law of Soil, SS.7.CL.2.1 Citizenship)
