Students learn about the Preamble’s six goals of government (such as “Establish Justice” or “Provide for the Common Defense”!) and historic and contemporary images show how these six goals have applied to the American government’s actions throughout history.. ✯ Six Goals of Government Preamble to the Constitution Posters with variations! The posters quote the six goals of government, and I’ve included the following variations:

• The six goals of government with clipart, as you can see in the Preview.
• The six goals of government without clipart, which may be more appropriate for older grade levels.
• “Insure Domestic Tranquility” and “Common Defence” Posters with the original spelling, with or without clipart. (Some teachers prefer to use the current-day spellings of Ensure and Defense, and others want to stay true to the original document, so I’ve included both! Just select which pages you want when you go to print.)

✯ Goals of Government-In-Action Images. Each set of images corresponds to one of the goals of government, 1-2 pages per goal. You can arrange these images around each scroll to show real-life examples of the Preamble in action!

Sample images included:

• An image of the Emancipation Proclamation, Lincoln’s Executive Order abolishing slavery, to go with Form a More Perfect Union.
• An image of Susan B. Anthony’s grave with “I Voted” stickers stuck to the tombstone, for Secure the Blessings of Liberty for Ourselves and Our Posterity.
• An image of soldiers on a boat on D-Day, about to storm the beaches at Normandy, for Provide for the Common Defense.

Each example image includes an informative caption that explains how the image relates to the Goal of Government.
