This Civics End of Year Vocabulary Dominoes Review Game reviews vocabulary and key concepts for an entire year of Civics or American Government curriculum! Vocabulary terms related to civics, citizenship, the origins of government, the American Revolution, U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, Voting Amendments, U.S. Foreign & Domestic Policy, and more are all included. Ideal for middle or high school students studying for end of year course exams in Civics or American Government!
This resource reviews all four standards in the Florida State Standards for Middle School Civics, and should be easily applicable to other states’ Civics or American Government curriculum plans as well.
In this Civics End of Year Vocabulary Dominoes Review Game, students play in groups of 2-4 as they make connections between Civics vocabulary words on their dominoes tiles. This engaging, hands-on game pulls from the concept of hexagonal thinking: students find connections between vocab words from across their Civics or American Government curriculum. They’re reviewing the major concepts from your year’s teaching, prepping for their EOC or final exams, without even realizing it!
This Civics End of Year Vocabulary Dominoes Review Game resource includes:
✯ Set Up Instructions with a Sample Gameplay card to help students visualize the activity. These cards can be printed double-sided and set out on your game table for students to refer back to. The instructions are clearly worded and easy-to-follow, and the Sample Gameplay card offers a handy visual representation of how the game works!
✯ 7 pages of Civics Review Dominoes, over 160 vocab words and concepts from all across a standard Civics curriculum!
The dominoes pull concepts and vocabulary terms from the following topics:
- Civics & Citizenship
- Foundations of Government (including Types & Systems of Government)
- Colonial Rebellion & American Revolution
- The Declaration of Independence
- The United States Constitution
- The Three Branches of Government: Legislative, Executive, and Judicial Branches
- The Bill of Rights
- Voting Rights Amendments
- U.S. Foreign & Domestic Policy
Sample vocab words include: Citizenship, Literacy Tests, Self-Government, Mayflower Compact, Article One, The Legislative Branch, Monarchy, The U.S. Constitution, Marbury v. Madison, taxes, Electoral College, the President’s Cabinet, popular sovereignty, veto, bias, Law of Blood, Fifth Amendment, treaties, diplomacy, the First Amendment — and so many more!
Students will have fun putting down their hand of domino tiles, making as many creative connections as they can between all the different concepts they’ve learned about throughout the year. They have to exercise quite a bit of knowledge to make and defend their connections, so this is a game where higher level students will really thrive, and lower level students may surprise themselves with how much they remember!
This Civics End of Year Dominoes review is a great way to review your course’s curriculum before end of the year exams (like the Civics EOC!), or even as a fun activity in those final days of school! To reduce paper use & prep time, consider making this a stations/centers activity! Set up one station with these dominoes and 2-3 other stations with review activities, such as my How A Bill Becomes A Law or Passport to Citizenship Board Games!
The resource is available as a printable, non-editable PDF. An instructional card and sample gameplay card are included.
