The worksheets include a maze escape, a crossword puzzle, a word search, and an emoji riddles activity. Use as an review at the end of your unit, for your EOC exam, or as a quick, easy sub plan!

This resource is suitable for middle school Civics, American History, or American Government students and is a great way to review material at the end of a unit or before the end of year exams. Students love doing the puzzles, and they get a good review of their Civics vocabulary while they’re at it!

This resource is aligned to the following Florida State Standards for Middle School Civics:

  • Standard 3 SS.7.CG.3: Demonstrate an understanding of the principles, functions and organization of government. 

This resource includes:

✯ A Maze Escape. Students navigate the maze of review questions by drawing a straight line through each correct answer. By the time they reach the finish, their line should pass through every box! Questions include vocabulary definitions related to types and systems of government.

Sample questions in the Maze Escape:

  • The two types of this government are “direct” and “representative”.  (Democracy)
  • Who holds the power in a Unitary system of government? (Central Government)
  • In this type of monarchy, the ruler’s power is total, and it is not limited by a constitution. (Absolute)

✯ A Vocabulary Crossword with key words related to the forms and systems of government.

  • Vocabulary includes: federal, oligarchy, dictator, parliamentary, government, autocracy, monarchy 

✯ A Vocabulary Word Search with a word bank full of vocabulary terms.

  • Sample words from the Word Bank: parliament, president, rule of law, monarchy, oligarchy, theocracy, autocracy, legislative, executive, judicial, government, unitary, federal, confederal

✯ An Emoji Riddle activity. Students decipher emoji codes that represent six different forms of government. A super fun activity! (Happy Teacher Tip: Extend this game by challenging students to come up with their own emoji codes for other vocab words!)

✯ Answer keys for each activity!

This review is made to follow a unit on United States Types and Systems of Government. This is great for a sub day, homework, or as end-of-the-year review before exams. The puzzles are fun and challenging.
