Aligned to the the Florida State Standard for Middle School Civics:

  • SS.7.CG.2.1: “Define the term “citizen,” and explain the constitutional means of becoming a U.S. citizen.”

This citizenship review resource asks students to:

✯ Define key vocabulary. Page One of this kit has students write definitions for key vocabulary related to United States citizenship.

  • Vocabulary words include: Law of Blood, Law of Soil, the naturalization process, immigrants, refugees, illegal aliens, naturalized citizens, natural-born citizens.

✯ Give Examples of key concepts in action. On Page Two, students take the vocabulary words from the previous page and provide real-life examples in complete sentences. 

✯ Draw the steps of a political process. Students draw a poster representing the steps of the naturalization process for U.S. citizenship.

✯ Reflect. A final short essay response asks students to consider whether illegal aliens should have a pathway to legal citizenship.
